Alternative Program

  • The Valley Collaborative Alternative Middle School site is a small therapeutic school that assists students with their social, emotional, behavioral, and/or academic needs. Typically, students enrolled in our Alternative Middle School have been challenged in a traditional public school setting. The program utilizes concepts that hold students responsible for their actions through natural consequences and restorative justice. The program operates by building a trusting, structured, and safe therapeutic environment that allows students to give and receive productive peer group feedback. The site also incorporates Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports to create an environment where students focus on positive reinforcement to help foster appropriate behavior.  Staff and peers encourage students to make positive choices; by teaching social skills, coping strategies and modeling throughout the school day to aid with both academic and emotional issues. Students have access to SLP, OT, PT and social work services as indicated on their IEP.
